Doing business in India
There is a simple rule that every foreigner must follow when trying to do business in India. Never try to understand India or Indians. This may sound clichéd but you are better off not trying to understand the country or its citizens until you have identified your self with India. India has long been a target of conquerors and businessmen who wanted the same thing-wealth. However, it has always been that India has conquered the conquerors and has gained more from those who came to her seeking wealth.
This is not just about religion alone. The rail network that runs throughout India is primarily what was laid by the Britishers. Of course, they did this to facilitate the plunder. Today, it is this network that is ensuring that connectivity remains high in India at all times. It is natural to feel concerned whether you will have to indulge in corruption when doing business in India. Well, India is as corrupt as any of that nation. Do you give bribes in your country on a daily basis? Obviously not. Well, the same will apply to India as well.
It does not matter whether you are trying to sell horse insurance or are trying to buy iron ore from this country. How this country reacts to you will depend a lot on how you approach this country. If you try to manipulate the system, you will find that it can be easily manipulated. If you try to stick to your stance, you will find that the system will respect you and will accommodate you accordingly.
Of course, make it a point to learn more about its entertainment industry when you are in India to do business. It is one of the best examples of how entertainment and money can come together and lead a wonderfully symbiotic relation. The entertainment activities that take place in India today are primarily related to commerce and wealth gaining.
